SECURITY ALERT:
Fraudsters, scammers and other threat actors often target financial institutions and their customers in order to trick them into transferring funds or providing personal account information. These fraudulent schemes can take many forms and may be hard to detect. While we have highlighted some examples below, these are not exhaustive and threat actors are constantly coming up with new schemes.
Stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities immediately. If you are unsure or have any helpful information to provide, please contact us by filling up this form or by sending us an email at [email protected].
For general information on how to protect yourself against scams, you may find the following resources helpful:
Alert on Business Email Compromise ("BEC") Attacks on Financial Institutions
We are aware of recent Business Email Compromise ("BEC") incidents targeting financial institutions and related parties. A common example of such incidents involve bad actors spoofing legitimate email addresses of employees from financial institutions and sending fraudulent email replies containing fund transfer instructions into existing email threads, in order to defraud the recipient into transferring funds to a third party account owned or controlled by the bad actor.
We would like to remind all existing and prospective investors to remain vigilant and alert, and to inspect any suspicious or apparently urgent emails closely. In particular, investors are strongly advised to seek confirmation using a different and reliable medium (e.g. phone call) in the event that any out-of-the-ordinary instructions are received via email. In general, for direct subscriptions into the Fund, we will only accept wire payments to bank accounts located in Singapore in the name of Quantedge Global Fund (Offshore) or Quantedge Global Fund (US); we will never request for investors to transfer funds to a third party account.
If you suspect a BEC incident or have any doubts about the legitimacy of any instructions received over email, even on existing email correspondences, please reach out to us immediately via the contact methods above.
Alert on Fraudulent Mobile Applications for Trading or Investment
We have been alerted that threat actors may be posing as related companies of Quantedge Capital in other countries, notably Malaysia and Hong Kong, or falsely claiming to be representing or in partnership with Quantedge Capital. These threat actors may also falsely claim to be regulated entities and provide forged copies of business registration certificates as apparent "proof" of their legitimacy.
In one variation of such a scam, the threat actor offers "live trading" courses or investment opportunities via websites, social media platforms or mobile applications that are available for download on legitimate platforms (such as Google Play Store or Apple App Store). They may also promise high investment returns, partner loyalty programs or attractive rewards in exchange for depositing funds or referring other clients to them.  After an initial investment is made, the victims may be shown fictitious profits to mislead them into making further deposits. Eventually, however, the victims will not be able to withdraw their funds. Quantedge Capital does not have any offices in Malaysia, Hong Kong or any other countries, and does not operate any mobile application. Quantedge Capital does not offer any trading courses, stock lending or trading services, or any of the above-mentioned arrangements or programs. If you believe that you are a victim of such a scam, please report this to the relevant authorities immediately.
